Qualifying for Sleep Disorder Devices and Accessories

If you or a loved one need sleep supplies, medications and accessories, Medicare or Private insurance may help pay for them.

Private Insurance

Most but not all private insurance companies follow Medicare guidelines for sleep disorder devices and accessories qualification requirements. There are too many private insurance companies to go into detail about the required qualifications for each one. If you have a private insurance and you or a loved one have a need for devices and accessories (face masks, replacement pillows, replacement cushions, water chamber for humidifier, etc.), our Alliance members can talk to you about the specific requirements for your private insurance policy.

Medicare

Medicare may pay for a portion of your sleep disorder devices and accessories. A written, signed and dated order from a physician must be provided to the supplier before the claim is submitted to Medicare. Our Sleep Disorder Alliance members handle this for you.

Sleep Disorder Devices and Accessories are covered when all of the following criteria are met:
  1. The person must be eligible with an expressed written order from their doctor for a CPAP/BiPAP device.
  2. The person must meet all other applicable Medicare statutory and regulatory requirements.
